The dolphins of Jervis Bay are the inshore variety of Bottlenose dolphins called Tursiops aduncus

There are about 60 dolphins that live in Jervis Bay year round

Occasionally other dolphins visit from outside Jervis Bay

They group consists mainly of females and their young. These are called female bands

Dolphins are warm blooded, air breathing mammals that suckle their young

At birth dolphins are less than 1m in length and weigh about 10kg

Males grow to about 2.5m and weigh up to 200kg. Females are slightly smaller

Dolphins cruise at speeds of about 10kmph and can have bursts of up to 40kmph

Male dolphins band together in small groups called male alliances
